Older turnips, on the other hand, or those grown in hot weather are bitter. They’re a good source of vitamins, calcium and manganese.
We've chosen purple top white globe turnips for their sweet mild flavor and good yields. They're pretty too.
Turnips are cool-season plants that grow best when temperatures are between 45°F and 85°F, starting roughly 2 to 3 weeks before the last frost in the Spring and 8 to 10 weeks before the first one in the Fall. They need 6 to 8 hours of sunlight per day and can be harvested in about 55 days.
